Getting Ready for Our Adventure

Hello all,

Allan and I are getting ready for another travel adventure.  We are heading to Dubrovnik, Croatia on Monday May 6, arriving on Tuesday May 7.  We fly Toronto-Munich-Dubrovnik.  We'll be spending six days in Dubrovnik before heading to Split where we will spend five days.  We then head to Zagreb for five nights and then to Ljubljana, Slovenia where we will spend four days.  A quick two day trip to Lake Bled and then our final destination is Trieste, Italy where we will spend six nights.  We fly Trieste-Rome-Toronto on June 4.

We have not been to Croatia, Slovenia or Trieste so it will be an all new adventure.

Dubrovnik in the south of Croatia, then north to Split and Zagreb.  
Ljubljana and Lake Bled in Slovenia, and Trieste in Italy.

We are staying at Airbnbs in all locations except Lake Bled, where we stay in a pension.  We return to Toronto on June 4.

We are looking forward to our three country adventure.  Allan will be "Allan" for most of the trip but will be "Alonso" in Trieste.

Gallery of Modern Art- Our last full day in Trieste

Monday June 3 turned into a very sunny warm day with a high of 21C.  Our destination was the Civico Museo Revoltella, Gallery of Modern Art.  There was a Van Gogh exhibit we wanted to see, as well as to check out Baron Revoltella's private apartments, which are part of the Museum. Outside the Museum  View of the Museum Posters for the exhibit The founder of the Museum was Pasquale Revoltella (Venice 1795-Trieste 1869), one of the most important figures in the economic and political world of imperial Trieste.  He arrived in Trieste in 1797 as a child with his family.  In 1835, he opened his own import company, specialising in timber and grain.  He also embrarked on a career as a financier and was one of the first shareholders in Assicurazioni Gernerali, the insurance company founded in 1831.  A few years later, he joined the board of Lloyd Austriaco, the shipping company. Walk around Lake Bled and Coffee at Tito's Villa

Tuesday May 28 was sunny until about 2:30 p.m. and then it started to rain for the rest of the day.  It only cleared up at about 6:30 p.m.   High of 21C. We had decided that we were going to take a leisurely walk around Lake Bled.  It is a 6 km walk.  It was about a 25 minute walk from the Pension to the Lake.   Great shots of Bled Castle and St. Martin's Parish Church Just getting to the lake, with the view of the Castle There are no motorized boats allowed on the Lake, so it is very peaceful.  The path is either right on the Lake or slightly behind some of the hotels and other facilities that dot the shore.  Lots of folks doing the walk in either direction. Coffee, lunch, museums, history and fashion

Friday May 31 was a mix of sun, cloud with some periods of rain.  High of 21C.  It seems an umbrella is mandatory this time of year, as a sudden thunderstorm with torrential rain can emerge in just a few minutes. We decided to go to Antico Caffè San Marco, one of the historic Trieste coffeehouses, in operation since 1914. Trieste is Italy's uncontested coffee capital.  Even today, it is said that the city's inhabitants drink twice as much coffee on average as other Italians.  Illy is one notable coffee brand founded in Trieste.  Trieste even has its own coffee terminology: "Nero"=espresso and a macchiato is known as a "capo".
